This project involved the facade renovation of a historically significant building to preserve its contribution to the cityscape. The renovation focused on the courtyard facade, including:
Complete renewal of the facade plaster,
Replacement of the balconies,
Installation of new windows for the apartments, and
Restoration of the stairwell windows and exterior doors.
Originally constructed in 1898 as a four-story building and later extended with an additional floor in 1973, the building was designed by the architectural firm Nyström-Petrelius-Penttilä.
The project was executed as a turnkey solution, with Nodetec responsible for construction management, structural design, and site supervision. Planning for the facade renovation began in 2023, and the project was completed in 2024.
Special attention was paid to the building’s historical value. The original wooden windows in the protected main stairwells were restored following traditional construction principles. Decorative elements in the courtyard entrance passage were recreated as plaster ornaments, and the passage was painted with traditional lime paint. The courtyard facade plaster was redone using a three-layer plastering method. The balconies and their railings were replaced to match the original design, with particular focus on effective rainwater drainage.
