I discovered my passion for construction as a young boy in my hometown of Lappeenranta, where I loved helping my parents with every possible task related to building and craftsmanship. My professional journey began in 2007, when I started studying at what was then Saimaa University of Applied Sciences. Summer jobs and career opportunities led me to Helsinki, where I started working permanently in an engineering office’s renovation design team at the end of 2010.

Throughout my career in structural engineering, I have primarily worked in renovation construction, project management, construction supervision, and consulting. In recent years, my role has shifted more towards administrative and quality project oversight, although I still remain actively involved in project design teams.

I am passionate about sports in all forms, but my heart is closest to skiing and triathlon. Over the years, I have completed multiple competitions, including successfully finishing the Ironman race in Barcelona in 2018. At home, my two amazing sons bring both inspiration and joy to everyday life.

Valtteri Vaarsalo

I have been in the construction industry since 2007, when I started working on building sites as part of a group of carpenters. In 2010, I began working at Aalto University as a research and teaching assistant, focusing on building information modelling. My master’s thesis dealt with the same topic, and I completed it in 2012, at which time I also started working in an engineering office as a structural designer. Since then, I have worked in structural engineering. For the first five years, I mainly worked on repair and alteration projects, but I have since transitioned towards new building projects. Currently, my work is split approximately 50-50 between repair and new building projects. My role in projects is as a responsible designer and/or project manager. I am also in charge of BIM and overall technical development at Nodetec.

Patrik Laakso

I have experience in structural design since 2009. My first design assignments were the design of concrete elements and residential apartment buildings. Since 2012, I have been involved in large renovation projects, such as the renovation of the Olympic Stadium and the OP Vallila headquarters. In the industrial sector, I have worked as a structural designer in several large projects in which I have designed exceptionally demanding concrete and steel frames and special structures such as underground high pressure walls. Examples of such projects include the Kaitaan metroasema (Länsimetro), the Finnoon Pumping Station and the Turun Wastewater Treatment Plant. In recent years, I have been responsible for the structural design of large renovation and modification projects in high-value properties in a prime locations in Helsinki.
In addition to project work, I am the head of the structural unit and work in the company's development and strategy.

Janne Hellsten

Finance and business development have been at the core of my career from the very beginning.

I am an Authorized Public Accountant (KHT) and hold a Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration. I have worked extensively in financial management, reporting, and financing.

In recent years, my role has increasingly focused on supporting the growth and profitability of SMEs through practical financial leadership and auditing.

At Nodetec, I work as a part-time outsourced CFO, responsible for the overall financial management, reporting, and supporting management decision-making. My goal is to ensure that growth is based on realistic figures, investments are made in a controlled manner, and financial visibility supports daily management. When leading through numbers, it is important to keep in mind that growth should not come at the expense of employees, customers, or other stakeholders, but should instead be achieved as sustainably as possible over the long term.

My working style combines strategic vision with practical execution – I am actively involved in the day-to-day work of the management team and the board, while also helping to build structures that support long-term development.

In my free time, exercise provides balance and serves as a counterweight to intensive expert work.

Antti Tolonen

I have been working in structural engineering support services since 2010. My role at Nodetec includes diverse administrative tasks.

•  I have specialised in structural engineering project management and processing and managing offers.

In my free time, I am active. I do weight training, horseback riding, and go to the gym whenever possible. I also enjoy being outdoors.

Jack has experience as a professional engineer, specialising in the design and execution of steel structures while maintaining proficiency in the design of a variety of other materials, including timber, reinforced-concrete, composite, and prestressed structures since 2008. As head of international projects, Jack deals with customers from around Europe and seeks new opportunities for Nodetec to grow globally.

Iina Kovalainen

I’ve been working in the construction industry since 2018. Starting with some carpentry, then finding myself in site foreman’s role and eventually getting to structural designing. During this time, I’ve also completed my master’s degree and even made some teaching assistant’s work at the university.  My interests lie especially in demanding structural design projects.

My career in the construction industry began in 2012 when I started working as a steel structure installer at Audi’s construction site in Frankfurt. Since then, construction has truly become my passion, and as a technical consultant / project manager I have been involved in some of Finland’s largest international construction projects, including the construction, Due Diligence, and operational phases of the new headquarters of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). The projects have involved leading companies from Spain, France, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Germany.
