Aleksanterinkatu 15 is an office and commercial building in the heart of Helsinki, originally completed in 1889. Designed by architect Gustaf Nyström, the building is partially protected and was originally five stories tall. In the 1950s, it was extended with three additional floors. The structure features a mixed construction frame with solid brick core walls and external walls.

The renovation included updates to the upper floors, reconfiguring commercial spaces, and creating restaurant and retail spaces on the street level. A rooftop terrace was also constructed. After the primary project, the collaboration continued with additional consultations and design work for various modifications to the property.

Key Considerations in the Design:

  • Preserving historically valuable interiors.
  • Addressing acoustic insulation between spaces.
  • Ensuring healthy indoor air quality.
  • Routing building systems efficiently.
  • Achieving a high-quality finish for surfaces.

The project faced challenges due to a tight construction schedule and the logistical constraints of its central location, which were managed to meet the client’s requirements.
