Kiinteistö Oy Turku Sampotalo, originally designed by architect Erik Bryggman and completed in 1938, is a historic office and commercial building in central Turku. Initially serving as the headquarters of insurance company Sampo, the building has seven floors, an attic, and two basement levels. The renovation project, launched in 2020 and completed in early 2023, focused on modernizing building systems and updating spaces for new tenants. The aim was to create a healthy and functional work environment while also repairing the plastered facade and courtyard deck.

Nodetec was responsible for the structural design of the renovation. The scope of work included:

  • Structural modifications for new layouts.
  • New openings in load-bearing structures.
  • Support structures for new glass walls.
  • Repair designs for the courtyard deck and facade.

Special attention was paid to the historically valuable and partially protected interiors and facade, as well as ensuring flexibility for future use. Some spaces remained operational throughout the project.

Numerous site visits were conducted to review design solutions with the contractor (NCC), the architect, and the Finnish Heritage Agency. The design required constant communication with the site team and quick responses to challenges encountered with the old structures.

The project utilized Building Information Modeling (BIM) and achieved a BREEAM Excellent environmental certification.
